Location, Hours, and Staffing

Location

Since 2007, the tree sale is held at the corner of East Avenue and Granger Place on the Asbury First United Methodist Church campus in Rochester. In the past, the sale has been held at a number of locations in the southeast section of the city, the most recent being the corner of Culver and University at the site of the new PriceRite supermarket.

Hours and Staffing

The tree sale runs from Thanksgiving weekend to Christmas Eve. The tree lot is open on Thursday and Friday evenings from 4:30-9:00 pm and from 9:00 am-9:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The lot is staffed by scouts, with the assistance of parents.  A scoutmaster or committee member is scheduled as the cashier.

The Special Projects department coordinates scheduling.  Scouts and parents are asked to sign up for a set of three-hour shifts, from which a master schedule will be compiled.  The actual number of shifts required is dependent on the length of the sale and the number of scouts in the troop and will be determined in October.

If a scout cannot make a shift for which he is scheduled, it is his responsibility to find a replacement. In order to use the funds in his scout bank, the scout must work the required number of shifts.

Setup

Tree lot setup occurs on the morning of the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  Wreath assembly occurs concurrently with  lot setup. Scouts are required to attend one of these events and will be assigned by the special projects department.  Scouts who are not available because of travel or other reasons will be asked to work one additional shift on the tree lot to meet their shift requirements.
