Policy and Procedure
Customer Relations
Before the Sale
- When a customer walks on the lot they should be greeted by a scout.
- Ask the customer if he/she has any questions or needs any help, then back off and allow the him/her to browse the lot freely.
- If a customer asks about pricing, show him/her the price tags. Prices are not negotiable.
- When the customer selects a tree, cut it down from the stake and cary it to the processing area for the customer (have another scout help you, if necessary).
Making the Sale
- Remove the price tag from the tree, give it to the customer, and direct the customer to the cashier to pay.
- We accept cash or check, we regret that we cannot accept credit cards.
- Ask the customer if they want a fresh cut. Explain that, after a tree is cut, sap builds up at the base of the trunk and pevents the tree from properly absorbing water. A half-inch cut is normally sufficient, but cut more if the customer requests it.
- Offer to trim any branches from the base of the tree. If the customer wishes, they may take the cut branches with them.
- Offer to bail the tree.
- Carry the tree (with the assistance of another scout, if necessary) to the customers car and offer to tie it to the roof or trunk.
Lot Maintenance
- Refill empty stakes as soon as possible. Use a buddy to ensure the tree is placed as close to the stake as possible. Make sure all stakes are full before ending your shift or closing the lot.
- For maximum stability, always tie the tree to the stake in two places--near the top and bottom of the stake. Improperly staked trees can be knocked over (and may be damaged as a result) by moderate wind gusts.
- Keep lot entrence and aisles between trees clear of any debris, cuttings, etc.
General Policy
- Remain on the lot for your entire shift.
- Do not bring food or drink to your shift.
- MP3 players and other electronic devices are not allowed.
- No horseplay, especially when customers are on the lot.
- All tips are to be turned in to the cashier.
