Campout at High Tor

  • Date:
    September 20, 2019 - September 22, 2019

Welcome back to another great year of Tay House scouting! Our first campout will be September 20th-22nd at High Tor Wildlife Management Area in Naples, NY. The campground is approximately an hour south of Rochester, off of State Route 21. A map and directions are attached. The campout will begin at 6pm on Friday, September 20th and end promptly at noon on Sunday, September 22nd. Patrol leaders will coordinate carpooling with their patrols.*

The Scouts will be sleeping in troop-provided tents. A Fall/Spring packing list is also included. Fall hikes require Scouts to be prepared for any sort of weather, especially rain or cool temperatures, so please pack accordingly. The hike into the site from the gate is well over a mile and gains several hundred feet of elevation, so please make sure that your Scout has good hiking boots and a sturdy pack to carry his gear. Please bring a bagged meal for Friday dinner.

Please don’t hesitate to contact any Staff member in the Camping Department if you have any questions. We look forward to a great year – and remember that three quarters of scouting is outing, so please take a moment to put all campout dates on your 2018-2019 calendars now! It is the best experience we as a troop can offer the scouts.

* Please note that that the hike is the same weekend as the Naples Grape Festival (Sat. & Sun.), so we recommend that you avoid driving through the middle of town on Sunday due to likely traffic congestion. One of the easiest ways to do this is to take Gulick Road and continue south past Camp Cutler into Naples. This will drop you out on Main St. in Naples past most of the festival traffic.
