March 20, 2020 - Update for Sumer Camp
Received from Seneca Waterways Council
Dear Campers and Families,
We are closely monitoring the progression of the COVID-19 Outbreak across the US. This is an extremely fluid situation and updates are coming by the day. As always, the safety of our campers and staff is our number one priority and we will continue to evaluate how these circumstances may impact our summer programming. However, at this time, we still plan on offering our summer camp program this June.
In order to help you register with confidence, we have updated our registration guidelines as follows;
If you have already registered and wish to exercise caution, contact our office (585.241.8585 or email@example.com) about moving to a program later in the summer. Understanding you may be waiting to make your summer camp payments we are extending our April 22 Early Bird discount to May 1, 2020. In the event you need to cancel your registration due to a camper or immediate family member testing positive for Covid-19, you will receive a full refund (including deposit), with a doctors notification. In the unlikely event that Seneca Waterways Council, BSA makes the decision to cancel a session of camp, you will receive a full refund (including deposit).
For accurate information on how you can protect your family right now, we suggest resources found at NYS Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
We are committed to keeping you updated of any changes in our plans, policies, or procedures. If you have any questions or concerns you are welcome to contact me at (585) 241-8570 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please be aware that as of 3/17/2020, our employees have been given the option to work from home, so I will be checking messages from home regularly, but it may take a little longer than usual for a response. Email may be a faster route for contacting me.
Thank you for your continued support of Seneca Waterways Council. We look forward to an amazing summer and year. See you soon!

March 17, 2020 - Gettysburg Refunds
Scouts who were to be going on the Gettysburg trip will have their deposit refunded. Our plan is to apply any the deposit towards the cost of camp. Please reach out to us if you would prefer to have a check mailed back to you.
March 15, 2020 - Virtual Troop Meetings to Start Monday, March 16
I hope you are all doing well in these difficult times. As with much of the rest of our society, we are having to adjust our lifestyles and how we interact. Our in person meetings and activities have been cancelled for the near future, but I want to make sure that we as a Troop remain connected.
To facilitate this, I am proposing that we try out meeting virtually as a troop. I would like to propose having weekly virtual meetings around 30-45 minutes in length at 7:30PM each Monday. We are still working to figure out the details of what formats our programs will take. I will be looking for feedback and input on how to make this as effective and useful as possible. We will have our opening ceremony, provide an instructional activity, announcements and a closing.
The software tool that we will be utilizing for these meetings is called GoToMeeting. Scouts can either download the free app on to their phones if they have one, go to the web browser version on the family computer, or call in using any phone line.
The link and log in information below is the meeting that we will utilize
You can also dial in using your phone. United States: +1 (646) 749-3112
Access Code: 666-219-349
New to GoToMeeting? Get the app now and be ready when your first meeting starts: https://global.gotomeeting.com/install/666219349
Our first trial of this will be tomorrow (3/16) at 7:30. Our goal for that meeting will be to get our scouts comfortable with the software, and work out any kinks we come across. This will be a short meeting, as we are still working on program concepts that will work well in this format.
It is strange adjusting to the new realities of how we have to interact while we deal with this crisis, but our society needs it’s scouts now more than ever. I want us to work together to remain connected in community, and continue to advance the mission of scouting.
Yours in Scouting,
Tay House Troop 19
March 14, 2020 - All Troop Activities Cancelled Until Further Notice
As you are probably already aware, all Monroe county schools are closed until further notice. As previously communicated, we take our lead from the school district and county health officials when it comes to our cancellations.
We will be cancelling our meetings until further notice, in an attempt to do our part to help slow the spread of Coronavirus.
Our camping trip next weekend is being cancelled.
Unfortunately our trip to Gettysburg is also being cancelled. Families who put down a deposit for the trip will have their deposit refunded. More information is to come on that.
Additionally, we will be providing more guidance in the next few days about how we will be collecting final camp payments, which had been due at this Monday’s meeting. Stay tuned to your emails for more on this.
More to come in the following days about how we will be doing our best to remain connected as a troop during this difficult time. Until then:
A scout is clean: Practice good hygiene, wash your hands and don’t touch your face!
Yours in Scouting,
Tay House Troop 19
