On Saturday, September 21st, Tay House Troop 19 will observe National Orienteering Day by exploring one of several orienteering courses set up in Cobbs Hill Park between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. The courses will start and end at the Tay House cabin located behind the Monroe County Water Authority Headquarters (475 Norris Drive) in the City of Rochester. This stand of forest, known Washington Grove, is one of the last old growth ecosystems in the area, with some trees over 200 years old. It is a spectacular place to learn an essential "old school" scout skill: finding one's way with only a map and a compass.

This is considered a mandatory event as we want to represent our troop in good spirit for the visiting Webelos. Please come in full scout uniform by 9:30am, but with a light Fall jacket as weather permits. We expect to be done by Noon!

NOTE: all scouts (anyone under 18) will need a parental signature on an orienteering club permission form in order to participate.

Please contact Mr. Ray Rhulmann, Recruitment Committee Chair, at 585-704-6144.

  • Event Flyer - Please print and distribute this flyer to anyone that may be interested in joining Tay House.
  • Participant's Waiver - Parent or guardian signature required for any participant under age 18.
